Getting back into the groove for parent’s and kids is definitely tough at the start of a new school year! It’s even more tough when you have multiple kids to get ready. So what helps me is being well organized. I love anything functional and when it’s cute, its even better.

In the past I would have to place their school outfit out each night but then I saw this pin from Pinterest.

I absolutely LOVED the idea! Why didn’t I think of that? Finding a plastic 5-drawer organizer was quite challenging. I went to 3 different places and no luck. The more I thought about it and did the math…it’s probably around $15 for each but multiply that by FOUR (for my kids) and it just didn’t sound like a good investment to me. Especially if I didn’t know if I could keep up with it. It would be money down the drain.

I had a bunch of closet organizers from IKEA so I made one first and realized that my two littlest ones couldn’t reach the top even after using a step stool. So I had to come up with another plan for them.

My two eldest clothes organizer. I attempted to put 2 weeks worth of clothes in here at a time but it only confused them in the mornings when they are half asleep. So I recommend doing one week at a time.

I saw these adorable tags at http://shop.livinglocurto.com/days-of-the-week-clothes-tags/ but I didn’t need them to be too elaborate. I fashioned some simple ones out of cardstock that I had at home, a large round puncher and markers. All at NO costs to me.

This has helped make the mornings run so much smoothly. The kids know their routine in the morning: grab clothes, take shower, brush teeth, and eat breakfast. There isn’t any more fussing about what outfits to wear and that in itself is well worth doing this. I typically organize their school clothes on Saturday because it gives me time to do a quick load of laundry if needed and I hate cramming everything into Sunday because that’s family day.

This is not just beneficial for little ones but for grown kids and adults as well!

(Update: Im proud to say that this is week four of school and I’ve been keeping up with it.)

Hope this tip makes your mornings a little bit sweeter!

I’m the husband so this new organization for the kids have made my job so much easier in the morning. For the last 2 years, I’ve had to wake up early to get the kids in the shower, select their clothes and get them in the kitchen for breakfast. Then rush them to school before they’re tardy. Now, like Christine mentioned, they wake up themselves, grab their clothes and shower on their own. I get a few more minutes in bed before I go make breakfast.
Trust me, it’s wonderful to see your kids become more independent. Thanks, honey, for coming up with this system!

Thank heaven for school uniforms, our kids have a dress code so I don’t have to deal with this!

Wonderful tips! I love the idea of the labels on the hangers for each day of the week. I use the M-F hanging shelves for 2 boys… I place both of their clothes on 1 hanging shelf. I’m thinking I need 2 or another system soon.
